건축조각 서체는 건축물과 조각품 같은 구조를 지닌 컴퓨터 글자입니다. 글자 필수 모양새에 영향을 주지 않는 범위 내에서, 다양한 구조가 만들어지도록 일부러 필요하지 않은 획을 추가하기도 하며 서체를 디자인했습니다. 그 결과, 글자가 놀랍도록 변화무쌍하고, 재미있고, 독특하게 건축되었어요!

건축조각 서체는 2022년 한글날 576돌을 기념해 발표됐어요. 제 작품 중 ‘건축조각’을 생각하며 디자인해서 이름도 건축조각 서체랍니다. [건축조각 1.0]을 처음 완성하는데 8개월이 걸렸어요. 2022년 2월부터 단순 작업을 자동화하는 기능이 없는 폰트 제작 프로그램을 사용하니까 그렇게 오랜 시간이 걸리더군요. 물론 서체 작업만 한다면 좀 더 시간을 단축했겠지만, 다른 작업과 병행하려니 계절이 두 번이나 바뀌었어요. 그나마 매킨토시 자동화 프로그램인 오토매이터가 조금 도움이 되긴 했습니다.

건축조각 서체는 현대 한글 11,172자, 라틴, 유럽, 그리스, 키릴, 베트남어, 아라비아 숫자, 특수 문자 그리고 기호를 표현할 수 있습니다.

1번 오리지널 건축조각 서체는 개인 및 기업 사용자를 포함한 모든 사용자에게 무료로 제공되며 자유롭게 재배포할 수 있고, 상업 용도로 사용 가능합니다. 픽셀이나 아웃라인으로 변환된 글자 이미지는 디자인 과정에서 사용자가 임의로 변형할 수 있습니다. 하지만, 서체 파일 그 자체는 수정과 변형이 허용되지 않습니다. 서체 파일은 앱이나 웹 등에 임베딩할 수 있습니다. 하지만, 서체 파일 그 자체를 유료로 판매하는 것은 금지되어 있습니다.

ARCHISCULPTURE font is a computer typeface made with architectural structures. I deliberately added more strokes to the extent that it does not affect the essential components of the character, and as a result of designing the look, the typeface was constructed surprisingly kaleidoscopic, fun, and unique!


To commemorate the 576th anniversary of Hangeul Day in 2022, I designed the typeface and it was named after one of my art projects, ‘ARCHISCULPTURE’. It took 8 months to complete the first ARCHISCULPTURE font 1.0, starting in February 2022. I think this is because I was using font creation software that didn’t have any automation features. Of course, if I had only produced the font, the period would have been shorter, but I think it took more time because I was doing it in parallel with other work. At least Macintosh Automator helped.

ARCHISCULPTURE original, 2024, and fun font comparison

ARCHISCULPTURE font family contains 5 fonts:

1. ARCHISCULPTURE_v355 (ARCHISCULPTURE original font)

5. ARCHISCULPTURE_fun_v150 (this is the ‘fun’ version of the font in which the design of some Latin letters ‘ACDGLMNPSTVWmnvw’ has been changed from the 2024 version)

1. The original ARCHISCULPTURE font is free for all users, including individual and corporate users, and can be used commercially. Font converted to pixels or outlines can be freely modified by the user during the design process. However, the font file itself cannot be modified. Font file can be embeded in apps, web, etc. However, selling the font file itself for a fee is prohibited.

2, 3, 4, 5. These ARCHISCULPTURE fonts are paid and available for commercial use. Font converted to pixels or outlines can be freely modified by the user during the design process. However, the font file itself cannot be modified.
